We're looking forward to moving on to bigger and better things - partly because ofthe inspiration provided by your wonderful pit cooking pages. It's nice to see that they are still be added to! Hi!
Hi! I was searching the web for photos of the silk road. I work for the American Botanical Council, a non-profit research and education organization. ABC is dedicated to educating the public on the use of herbs and phytomedicinals. ABC produces a journal, HerbalGram, that is our main education tool. We have a proposed article inthe works for a history of spice and medicinal plant trade on the Silk Road. Did you know that Spiderwort has been used to detect indoor pollution. I wanted to give you a reference for that tid bit, but I can't seem to find it. Your diary is very intriquing. ABC produces eco-tours, which are really edu-tours to educate those in the medical profession about where medicines come from and why plants should be saved. We should have such an aware person on one of our trips. I enjoyed seeing your page and info-its nice to see people just having fun here!

Hi!
It's sunny and warm in Tulsa, Oklahoma today, rather unusual for the middle of winter. Just remember two things; "the act of no decision is a decision" and, if you don't know what to do, "always predict that the current trend will continue".

Hi! Your page with assorted map links is great! Thank you!
Hi! Lynn, just read your page it sounded a lot like our expierments with goats and deer except for using hickory appele and pecan (pronuced pa,long a, con) and two kegs of beer. We're still not sure how the meat came out but the beer and the party came out fine. Next time we will try your recipe and see if it will work a little better. We will have to use bricks instead of rocks as we don't have many rocks here in southeast Arknsas just a lot of dirt sand and trees but it's beautiful fishing country. Have fun catch you later Ben alis catfish kid.

Hi! I'm anxious to look at your map sites. I too love to look at maps.
Hi!
I enjoyed your team Mumu pig cooking page. I have a cuban friend here who does a similar pig roast (the cuban food in miami is amazing...especially the Lechon asado... roast pork). This guy has a big wooden box on short legs. He puts the pig in this box, puts a steel lid on the box, and builds a charcoal fire on top of the lid. I am going to try this when I move to Denver next month. My perfect pig quest is because I will no longer be in Miami where I can get the perfect pork at any cuban restaurant. Email me if you want to know how it goes...Cheers!!

Today, looking for a hotel in Ushuaia to stay during New Year's Day I found your article A Trip to the End of the World. Maybe the "tips" are too north americans, maybe the north americans are very demanding, but read the article was a great pleasure to me. As a brazilian I may see the world a little different, I give less space to bad things.... But I enjoyed reading your adventure. Nice meeting you in the net, Claudia - Sao Paulo - Brasil

Hi! I've just started reading your story about the silkroad. I'm a college student here in Japan. I'm thinking of long trip before I graduate next march. The Silkroad has always interested me and that is why your page caught my eyes. Although I'm longing to make this Silkroad trip, I do not have enough information. I may be wrong but I heard the construction of the railroad that goes along the Silkroad has been completed recently. So I'm thinking of taking the train all the way. Still, what I know about the Silkroad is too little for me to start a trip. I would appreciate it if you could give me some advice. Talk to you soon, Hiroyuki Sato

Hi! I am a chef and restaurant owner in the heart of Cajun Country in Lafayette, La. Saw your recipe for TurDucken . It works also with a Speckle Belly Goose instead of the turkey. Use a small pintail duck and a teal instead of the chicken. All of these birds are available here in South Louisiana during hunting season. The teal can also be stuffed with crawfish etouffee or sausage. My restaurant is Café Vermilionville on Pinhook Road in Lafayette, La. I hope to have my web page up and running soon. We live in a Sportsman's Paradise with fresh and saltwater fishing just a few miles away and the finest waterfowl hunting in the the USA just 45 minutes away. My passion is hunting and fishing and then cooking for my customers and friends. We live a great life here in Louisiana. I also serve salmon and rainbow trout in my restaurant along with grouper, red snapper, dolphin, wahoo, cobia and other Gulf of Mexico fishes. I enjoy your site. Keep it up.

Hi!
Hi! Nice site.
Friday Evening September 6, 1996 Greetings Lynn: Somehow 'AltaVista' came across your 'map-link's Web Page while I had it searching for information on HP's PCL Printer Control Language. I like maps too, and so when I saw the reference, I had to go take a look. I'm an Engineer with a communications company, here on the north side of Dallas. I used to get to travel a fair amount around the U.S., but changes in the job, plus the fact that some family matters limit me now, mean that I don't get out much anymore. Well, it being Friday evening, and me not having had supper, I think it's time to call it quits, and get out of this place! Best Regards; Paul Nix e-mail: Paul_N_Nix@aud.alcatel.com Network Engineer Alcatel Network Systems Richardson, Texas

Hi!
Hi! As an avid cook, I can't say how pleased and surprised I was to find this website. I cold smoke many foods, salmon included. My plans for the fall smoking season are to obtain some American Black Walnut and smoke salmon over that. I also smoke ham, pork loin and homemade sausages over such woods as Pecan Red and White Oak, Olive and Apricot. My cooking partner and I just finished making a gallon of "taco" sauce. It is now aging "on the oak", i.e., it is resting in a 1 gallon oak barrel. Could you or someone at TEAM MUMU please describe the size of the pit, and the amount of and type of wood or charcoal used for your feat of culinary legerdemain. I have some Seville Oranges (Marmalade flavor) and a Mexican mild chile paste and wish to marinate the loin in the juice/paste mix, then smoke it over almond and lemon woods then pit cook it. If you can supply the necessary information, I would be happy to invite you over for a bit of it. M. Preston Author: California Mission Cookery

I JUST GOT HOME FROM WORK (GRADALL COMPANY) WHERE I AM AN ENGINEERING CLERK. I'M SITTING HERE RELAXING LOOKING UP PENGUINS ON THE INTERNET. I FOUND MOST PEOPLE THINK THERE ARE ONL 17 SPECIES OF PENGUINS. ACTUALLY THERE ARE 18. MOST LISTS THEY LEAVE OFF THE WHITE-FLIPPERED SPECIES. I FOUND THIS IN THE BOOK "PENGUINS", PAST AND PRESENT, HERE AND THERE BY GEORGE GAYLORD SIMPSON. I STILL DON'T KNOW A WHOLE LOT. I JUST STARTED LOOKING UP PENGUINS. WELL I'M GOING TO READ ABOUT SOME MORE PENGUINS. SEE YA!!!

Hi!
Hi! I love maps. Thanks.
Hi! I found your page very interesting as I just cooked my first "kalua" pig. Our adventure started on a Friday in September when we first dug the "imu" (pit). The imu was about 5' by 4' and 2 1/2' deep. We started with about 1/4 cord of orange wood which burns very long and hot. There were still embers after three days. After the the wood was layed out teepee style we added the lava rocks on top. After 1 1/2 cans of kerosene we lit the fire at midnight Saturday. when the fire burned down about three hours later we threw banana plant stumps on the hot rocks. The pig was then placed in chicken wire, rubbed all over with Hawaiian salt. We finished this part by inserting 6 or 7 rocks inside and wrapping it up. After laying the pig on the banana stumps we covered it with banana leaves, wet burlap sacks, a tarp and finally dirt. Seven hours it emerged and to much joy it was actually cooked.
Hi! Lynn, I have lots of questions. 1. Any advice for a male(caucasian) and female(Chineese ancestry, speaks Cantonese) who are friends, u.s. defense workers, and live in sunnyvale/l.a. and are planing a six city , 17day tour in China with a possible extra day stop in Tokyo en route to Shanghai. The tour covers Shanghai, Hangzhou, Beijing, Xi'an, Guilin, Guangzhou, and Hong Kong. I'm a little concerned about the quality of hotels included,Grand View Garden Hotel is booked for Beijing, and flying within China to different cities on their local airlines(I'm a nervous flyer). The trip cost ~2250 excluding airfare, most meals in Rep. China incl. We're planning to go late March to early April. 2. Did you register or a formal class in Chinese. I'd like to try to pick up some basics and am looking for a set of tapes on Mandarin instruction. 3. I also love maps, especially the old ones, and the work that went into developing them. Have you read a book called The Mapmakers by J. Noble Wilford. Its very interesting. I tried to get to detail on your clickable map but got a configuration error. Any suggestions, thanks. Brian Boylan
Hi! Glad to see your account of the Gabo Island trip . It certainly is a great Idea to make so many people envious of the relaxing weeks on Gabo . great work . gordon
Hi!
Hi! Just want to thank you for the wonderful collection of recipies for salmon. I came across a cheap and good(fresh) supplier here. But my family is getting sick of the usual style of cooking it (poached). One day I might even post my Curry Salmon on your page. Your list of recipies gave me inspiration to explore other possibilities. Thanks. Beng
You're a wonderful site.

Hi! I haven't read your material yet, but I'll be travelling to Argentina next Xmas and hope to have great emotions like you! Ciao. Giulia
Hi! We came to your page through an AltaVista search for Salmon in a Dishwasher. Thanks for posting it, if just for the sake of proving that it's not just a rumor or story. Do you actually do it? We'll probably put it on the grill anyway, but if the weather on Thanksgiving is bad on the Oregon Coast (boy, what are the chances?) maybe the 'washer is the way to go. Thanks!
Hi!
Hi! found your web page while doing research for a paper in my biodiversity class at the evergreen state college my paper is on the penguin thanks for a great page!! Steve Bain bainstev @elwha.evergreen.edu

Hi!
Hi from Piedmont, California! Thankyou for all the great Salmon hints. If you want the BBQ Salmon to taste like the Northwest's Indian Salmon just throw some alderwood scraps on top of the coals, let it catch fire, put on the Salmon and cover immediately (to put out the flames). Same cooking time. Tom Vinson
I found "A Trip To the End of the World" while browsing through an Argentine search engine -appropriately named "Gardel". As a native of Tierra del Fuego, I must say it is the best piece on my land I have found on the Net (it's even better than many brochures). I have added it to my "favorites" list and plan to use it as a reference for future visits of friends: although I know the island pretty well -my family came in 1933 and never left-, it gives me a new point of view on which activities visitors, especially foreign ones, might enjoy the most, and how they could react to the cultural differences. Thanks for an accurate -and very flattering- article.

Hi! I just got the large map of Texas that the land board sells for around $15.00 shipped. The size is odd and it cost over $130 to mount it but I think the end result will be nice. Thanks for the links. Walt Pinegar
