Camels hate the taste but will swallow the smaller ones whole for moisture if they're feeling dry enough. They line the roads around Alice, too. It's said the "afghan" camel handlers of Australia's past (actually from around Karachi, Pakistan) brought them with the camels, wittingly or otherwise. Hi! I ususally have only three links on my "favorites" toolbar. It takes quite a bit for me to bookmark a page. The first is the GM Card Fantasy Football league homepage because I play the game with my co-workers and it's usually pretty fun. The second is the Yahoo Real Estate Home Values page because I am looking to buy a house and it reveals the prices people have paid for their homes over the last 20 or so years (an invaluable tool when making offers on houses). The third is John's poker page...because I just love poker. I have now added a fourth...Lynn's hot list. I have been browsing it for 2 hours now. It's absolutely wonderful!
Merry meet from San Francisco! Your Pitcairn trip report was magnificent, and I'm writing to thank you for doing such a marvelous job with the writeup. Best, Brin-Marie McLaughlin San Francisco
Hi! Felicitaciones por la descripción de vuestro viaje. Philo
Hi!
While surfing for geneology sites I happened upon your article on Pitcairn. I was only glancing through it and found myself absorbed. How absolutely fantastic. Several hours later, I finished. You are living the life I want. Your very fortunate!
Hi! this is orlando forero from bogota i just wanna say hello to all of you and hope you guys enjoy these maps.
Hi! I am a geography major at Northern Michigan University. I'm an older student just looking around for maps I can use to study on my laptop. So far, you're website has provided what appears to be some very useful maps which I'm going to recommend to my teacher. He'll be pleased with the map of Canada's new providence. Thank You.
Hi!
Hi! I like your home-page very much - especially the part about your work - and it has given me inspiration to improve my own home-page!
Hi! Great page. Could you let me know where to e-mail you? I need a specific map and am having a hard time finding one. Thanks, Deb
Hi!Happy to read of your adventures! I am involved with a group (mainly ex secondary teachers) who like to travel around together. Last year we "did" UK and Europe for 7 weeks. In June 99 we are doing a tour up through South Australia and Queensland. So glad you had a great time in OZ. Best wishes to you from down here! ... Rick
Hi! See I was reading an ancient copy of Pitcairn's Island, Nordhoff & Hall, 11th printing, 1968 which I bought from our library for a quarter and got really curious about current day Pitcairn and wound up in a narrative of a visit which led to this link so maybe I can ask you WHY don't islanders use SOLAR instead of noisy expensive fuel burning generators for power??? Not just Pitcairn of course, anyone who lives in the sun. We use it here in the woods in Alaska even on dark winter days and it's most effective! If I could spread one message to the world it would be GO SOLAR!!! You obviously are earth aware...what say you? Brad Somers
I am doing research on penguins and thought you would have some info on the animals well bye???!!!?!?!?!?!?!?!!?
Hi! This looks like a great site from which to (virtually) explore the world. And it seems to be frequented by a great bunch of people, too! Good luck!

Hi!
Hi!
hello
Enjoyed reading your travel notes on Tierra del Fuego. We're planning a family trip to celebrate the Millenium, and find the notes on Ushuaia especially helpful.
Hi! I found your page by searching for Sao Luis! You have some links on your Page! Have you been in Sao Luis? See my Sao Luis Page: Sao Luis Tchau, Peter
Hi! Lynn, I congratulate you for two achievements: 1. Your wonderful page and style. 2. The fact that you can mix work with so much fun. I am a chemical engineer and very fond of travel too.We hava dog too, a cocker spaniel and (not second in importance)a daughter who finishes this year her law degree. We have been on individual trips in almost the whole European continent, in India and Nepal twice, in Tibet, Thailand and Singapore. The pollution problem here in Israel is very acute, but there are too many other social and political problems, and the government is not taking proper care of it. We progress very slowly. Again, thank you for sharing with us your wonderful adventures. Gaby
Hi! I'm currently living in Gulfport MS. However, in the Navy I get to visit or live in odd places. Diego Garcia in the Chagos Islands which is about 1100 miles from Seychelles is my next tour of duty for one year. I would like to support you ozone project, however, I do not arrive to the island of DG until the end of March. I'm a Meteorologist in the Navy and if there is any help I can offer you in your project please ask.
Hi! I have been in love with penguins for as long as I can remember. I am approaching my high school graduation, and am faced with what to do with my life. I have given it much thought, and have decided, why not take the things that I love most and turn it into my career. If you could tell me about what you did to get into this feild of study, it would be extreemly helpful. Or if you could tell me where to get information that would help me on my way. It would help me out more than you will ever know. I'll will be waiting to hear from you. Thank you so much.
Glad to see what you are working on. I take it that your photographs from Dunhuang are from books and not your own? If they are yours, we would like to discuss the possibility of including them in the Huntington Photographic Archive. Cheers John
Hi! I am a penguin-dog-spacefan from Finland. In this country lives: Mika Häkkinen, Mika Myllylä, and Jari Litmanen is from Finland.
Hi - just tried out your Netpoker, and was wondering if you have, or could conveniently produce, any statistics on the outcome of poker games. As a grad student in mathematics, I am involved in some research on stock price modelling and was curious if I could find any simpler things in the way people play poker. Specifically, I don't suppose you have any figures on the distribution of pots at the end of the game, do you? I am considering reading your client software to see if this information can be pulled down easily from outside (hopefully without having to tie up a seat at a table). I am especially curious what the tails of the distribution look like - especially if they are fat like stock prices are. If you have any comments, I'd be pleased to hear from you. -Kevin Rosema http://www.math.rutgers.edu/~rosema/finance.html
Hi! I liked the China Travelogue - It reminded me off my silk road trip in 96... Adrian

Hi!I'm russian engineer. I created by own initiative a web-site about Ural nature, ecology (in English). I reply to many foreigners with pleasure about visiting on Ural, give to people additional information about this region. I want to show my web-project http://uralnature.webjump.com It's new non-commercial web-site about Urals (Russia) wildlife, state ecology service, about nature reserves of Ural, mineralogical and archaeological monuments, hunting, jewelry art, history. Photogalleries content about 1000 high-quality images and the full images from the Red Book of Ural - animals and plants. I'll create a part "Visitation on Ural" for foreigners, going to go in Ekaterinburg. I have a little problem, may be you may help me. This web-site is announsed in a competition "The best project in area of russian-american collaboration by private initiatives". I have a chance to win this competition, but for it I must have got some letters from foreigners about a value my web-site. Please, could you visit my site and write me on e-mail georgeK@stones.com a good accolade about it ? (ASAP). It will be a good help for me, if I win the competition, I'll make a new parts of my web-site and I can tell to many people about nature and wildlife of Ural. I made it by own initiative and I don't take any money for it. Best regards, George.
Hi! Very interesting site. I used to work with John Bartholomew & Sons in Edinburgh; famous map and atlas producers. I've been an avid map reader for many years with a large collection.
Hi!
Hi Lynn. I admire your work on the Yungang Buddhist Caves. I'm a travel and technology writer, I took kind of a wild solo adventure on a motorcycle across China last May and visited the Yungang Caves, which blew me away. I was rather upset about the coal dust, and was very happy to see your website chronicling your work at the caves. During my trip I uploaded dispatches to the web. They're at http://www.verbum.com/jaunt/china. They're also available at carlaking.com. Best, Carla
Hi!What a nice environmental project. Hope it will be a great success in the near future!

And all of this time I thought Richmond was the center of the universe. I guess I was wrong. Thanks for the page. Mo.
Hi!
Hi! Thanks for writing up your trip log. Four of us are planning a trip to the end of the world at the end of the millenium. We plan to fly to Buenos Aires then to Rio Gallegos, rent a car and then do a loop west to the parks down to Torres del Paine and south to a border crossing and ferry back to Argentina, down to Ushaiaua and then up to Rio Gallegos again and out, about 2 weeks and 1200 miles driven. Since we all have lived or spent time in Montana, this country sounds very similar. My friend and I drove up through the Yukon last summer on the Dempster Highway to the other end of the world, coundn't drive any further than Iupik, NWT. Guess we are looking for a little symmetry. Thanks again. Bill Mitchell
Merhba, Thanks for your info on Henderson Island. I have always dreamt of visiting the place. Seems you haven't been to Malta yet, despite so many interesting World Heritage sites. I happen to be the PRO of the Malta Heritage Foundation so perhaps I might give you a tip or two about my country. Visitors to your site are recommended to visit Fort Rinella (1884), in Kalkara, Malta. It is the home of the famous 100-ton RML gun, the world's largest canon. Our fax is 00356 - 640131. Thanks and keep trotting! Steve
13 June 1999 I've just visited your web page on Haghpat monastery, Armenia, which I helped nominate to the World Heritage List. At the moment, I'm helping with Echmiadzin, the Monastery of Geghard, and the monastery of Sanahin to be added to the Haghpat site. I have also worked on World Heritage sites in Nepal, Bangladesh, Vietnam and the Philippines and hope that I can persuade the WHC to take a proactive approach to Azerbaijan. Good work and I hope you enjoy visiting them!
Hi!
Hi! I am interested in going to Argentina. After reading your trip's description, I have a good idea what I should do. It is really a nice and detailed description and it seems that the trip is really exciting. But do you mind to send me some information about where we can buy the travel guide? And how much did you spend, including travel, accomodation, meals and other stuff? Thanks.

Thinking of stuffing it with fresh rosemary, coriander, and garlic (maybe lemon ?). Your site has help me. My only concern is that my ground area has a lot of clay, not sand. Hi! Your story "Pitcairn Island, You can't get there from here", was very enjoyable. Only one problem, not long enough! I found myself wanting more! Yet for awhile I was able to leave my hum-drum existence in Lebanon Ky. Maybe one day I'll be able to visit Pitcairn Island for myself. Right now, I'm content with what I have and where I am. I have Ladd, Sweet Pea, and Samson (my dog and two cats) to keep me company! Thanks for sharing your experiences! J.I.L. Mike Myers
Hi! Just browsing for map of Bosnia.
Hi! It was very very interesting to read about the Wieliczca Salt Mine in Poland. Thank You for this! I 'll be happy to hear from You. I moved from Germany three months ago with my husband and three kid's to Canada and I want to sell here salt-lamps in Canada and the USA. Have You an idea, how I can arrange this to get the material(salt-stone) from Wieliczca ? Best regards Margret
Hi!
Hi! It's really good site, and I'd like to know Dr.Cass G. Could you help me?
Hi!I'm a retired special ed teacher, not up to traveling much and a finicky eater to boot. My imagination takes full advantage of your wonderfully generous offerings. "thingie" is a useful word for me too. You seemed to have felt safe in the tribal territories. I always heard of roaming bandits targeting tourists. Did you just travel at a peaceful interlude - or have a way of charming the greedy? Thank you and take care.
Hi!
Hi! I'm a 28 year old Japanese famele, and this is the first trip to visit your site! It's beautiful! Well, I have a dream to go to see the all of world heritages(can I?!) and making my own home page about it. So, would you mind I link your page on my site? (my friend also hope it, but he doesn't write in English, so I came.) Thank you. http://www1.gateway.ne.jp/~freya
Hi! I'm in the process of developing a web site for our local Coast Action group. If the Gabo pages are likely to remain I'd like to build a link to them. A prototype for the site can be found from www.vicnet.net.au/~woomac. PS The Mallacoota link is broken, there are a number of options now that we have affordable access. PPS May I use that photo of the Eastern Grey Kangaroos, acknowledged of course.

Hi! You'll be interested that I'm using an excerpt from your Pitcairn trip as part of an exam question in an introductory tourism unit. I came across this some time ago, I don't know how! I'll try and read some more of your web material later. Regards, Jim

Hi!
Hi! I'm attending MIT, course X, '02. I was searching the MIT website for a Tech article in which I was interviewed, when I came across your name several times in class of '62 documents. I can't help but wonder what our relation is, if there is any at all. I am originally from Alabama, where there are quite a few Salmons residing. Drop a line sometime, and we can discuss our lineage :) Regards, Tina M. Salmon
Hi! see ya around, peace john
Hi! What's up?
Since I can't get to all the islands I'd like to, I nose around online to have a vicarious vacation. When I came across your journey to the Pitcairns I knew I wanted the whole thing, so printed it all out, can't wait to read it. I remember so well Nordhoff and Hall?'s book on the Bounty, and once a friend going round the world on the Sagafjord with a stop at Pitcairn brought me a souvenir. I'd love to get there, and Tristan, and Gough, and wherever. Thanks for making your adventures available to us!!
Your Pitcairn/Mangareva/Henderson account was great and makes me want to sell everything and "ship out" on a voyage in search of far and desolate places. You have quite a bit of traveling to do if you are going to get to all of the world heritage sites. Good Luck! After looking at the list I was surprised to see that I've made it to a few places, including Studenica Monastery which was spectacular (although perhaps dangerous to visit at the moment). Take Care.
Hi!
Hi! Hope you're having a great day! Jim
Hi! i´m a student form Portugal. I`m in this page because i`m search things about Easter Island ( on Portugal we call Ilha da Pascoa )for my work that i´m doing in the University of Trás os Montes e Alto Douro (UTAD). If you have something (links, Works etc)that can help me please send to me i would thank for the rest of my life. Sorry for my english. Like we say on Portugal "adeus e obrigado".
Hi! I found your web page while looking for some pictures of Poland. I didn't have much time to go around all there is to see and read but it looks quite interesting. You can expect me to come back soon! (I already bookmarked your home page!)
Hi! I've just finished your article on the Silk Road. Had quite a few good laughs. Thank you, and all the best for the future Jim
Hi! found your site through the archaeology news .... i'd like to introduce you to a very very unique experience we offer here in Australia...15 years have gone into the work that is now up and awaiting more and more text...to explain maps etc... Australia Rediscovered is the only site devoted to examining the controversial evidence of megalithic science in Australia, analyzing my data with regard to earthgeodetic grid studies that involve entradas of South American, and Middle Eastern peoples from 1200 BCE to 3200 BCE... i'll let you examine the preliminary work and then go to www.siloam.net/mossman which expands with the help of scholar Rush Allen from california..who has recently joined our team...he uses the cosmogenesis asterisms to help date and expand the belief systems that history runs a course with stellar positioning (Mayan philosophy and science actually)... thanks for the op to speak out... yours, Bruce L Raphael editor for Worldtree Com Australia
Hey,
I was reading an article on the World's Population and it mentioned how
there was this island "Pitcairn" that only had 46 inhabitants. 46! I went
on-line and the Pitcairn journey posted on your website gave me enough info to
satisfy my curiosity. :)
I would like to make a comment tho...I'm not sure if it was
appropriate to say "but the Jamaican slaves surely didn't have such
high culinary standards" with regards to the attempt at importing
breadfruit to the West Indies. Hey, you went to MIT, so you're prob.
more on the ball than I am...but coming from a Humanities program, it seems
tactless. I just think you could've said it differently, so as not to
offend your audience-- if it has offended anyone
HI! JUST A SHORT LETTER TO TELL YOU HOW MUCH I ENJOYED YOUR ARTICLE ABOUT PITCAIRN ISLAND. I AM JEALOUS!! KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK & WHEN IN JULIETTE AREA STOP BY FOR A "CUPPA" WARMEST REGARDS, RONNIE BINNER
ni-hao found your site interesting. i travelled China 7 years ago with a musical group for 5 weeks. i'm looking for info on the Takla Makan mummies from around Xian, any ideas?
Hi! (Sorry about my english...) Me and my boyfriend, Michael, were trying to find something about Patagonia in the internet when we found your article "A Trip to the End of the World". We are planing to go there next year, in January, and we just loved what you wrote! I think we will do the same as you and John (go to Buenos Aires, Ushuaia etc.). Thank you very much for all the help! Bye!
I'm a professor of geography and I find your site useful. Thanks.
Hi! I'm looking for a map of my region to put on my upcoming website. I'm a Geography buff and like maps, so I hope your site can fill me in!
Hi! I enjoyed visiting your page -- and it took me quite a while to get out of it! Maybe you would like to cross-link our site, a catalog of international maps? We are distributors, primarily importing. We obtain our maps directly from foreign sources and sell primarily here in the U.S. It's maybe of interest to some of your visitors. Best of luck with your site, Beth Powell President Omni Resources
