Common Redpoll (Acanthis flammea)

Fall and winter 2020 experienced an irruption of finches in Westchester county. We saw reports of redpolls and crossbills seen right and left, but we never seemed to be able to find the birds on our own. Finally, this week, we got a bird alert a few minutes after waking up and headed right over to Croton Point Park since it's only a few minutes away from home. After a short walk in the 20 degree weather, we came up empty, but as we drove away, Suzanne Kavic called us to report the birds had returned, and we happily were able to find them on the landfill, along with a bonus Hoary Redpoll. Yay!!
