I remember my first sighting of a Golden Eagle in our backyard in California. The bird landed on the post holding up the close line and my first thought was, my what big talons you have. It was a large bird, with very large feet, and I was glad not to be a mouse.
Since then, sightings have been few and far between. One spotted during a birding trip for sandhill cranes in Nebraska, and a smattering seen in NY.
